    \u00ab La\u00a0perte\u00a0du HMCS Esquimalt est\u00a0importante\u00a0pour la\u00a0municipalit\u00e9, non\u00a0seulement\u00a0parce\u00a0qu\u2019il\u00a0porte\u00a0notre\u00a0nom,\u00a0mais\u00a0aussi\u00a0parce\u00a0que\u00a0nous\u00a0reconnaissons\u00a0le sacrifice et la\u00a0perte\u00a0de\u00a0ceux\u00a0qui\u00a0ont\u00a0servi\u00a0\u00e0 son bord \u00bb, a-t-elle\u00a0d\u00e9clar\u00e9. \u00ab Derri\u00e8re chacun de\u00a0ces\u00a0hommes\u00a0disparus\u00a0se\u00a0trouvaient\u00a0des\u00a0familles\u00a0: des\u00a0\u00e9pouses, des\u00a0fils, des filles, des parents, des\u00a0amis\u00a0et des\u00a0communaut\u00e9s. \u00bb<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Le 16\u00a0avril\u00a01945, 44 vies\u00a0ont\u00a0\u00e9t\u00e9\u00a0perdues\u00a0lors\u00a0du\u00a0naufrage\u00a0de\u00a0ce\u00a0qui est\u00a0devenu\u00a0le dernier\u00a0navire\u00a0de guerre\u00a0canadien\u00a0coul\u00e9\u00a0par\u00a0l\u2019ennemi\u00a0pendant la guerre.\u00a0Pourtant,\u00a0l\u2019histoire\u00a0ne\u00a0s\u2019est\u00a0pas\u00a0arr\u00eat\u00e9e\u00a0l\u00e0.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Apr\u00e8s la capitulation de\u00a0l\u2019Allemagne, l\u2019U-190 a\u00a0re\u00e7u\u00a0un message\u00a0lui\u00a0ordonnant\u00a0de se\u00a0rendre\u00a0aux forces\u00a0alli\u00e9es, apr\u00e8s quoi il est\u00a0devenu\u00a0une\u00a0prise\u00a0de guerre canadienne. Le sous-marin\u00a0a\u00a0ensuite\u00a0\u00e9t\u00e9\u00a0mis\u00a0en\u00a0service au sein de la Marine royale canadienne (MRC) et a\u00a0particip\u00e9\u00a0\u00e0 des\u00a0exercices\u00a0d\u2019entra\u00eenement\u00a0naval, \u00e0 des\u00a0essais\u00a0et \u00e0 des\u00a0\u00e9valuations,\u00a0ainsi\u00a0qu\u2019\u00e0\u00a0une\u00a0croisi\u00e8re\u00a0sur le\u00a0fleuve\u00a0Saint-Laurent.\u00a0Gr\u00e2ce\u00a0\u00e0\u00a0ce\u00a0changement de propri\u00e9taire, un\u00a0navire\u00a0qui\u00a0avait\u00a0autrefois\u00a0traqu\u00e9\u00a0les\u00a0navires\u00a0et les\u00a0marins\u00a0canadiens\u00a0contribuait\u00a0d\u00e9sormais\u00a0\u00e0\u00a0renforcer\u00a0la\u00a0capacit\u00e9\u00a0op\u00e9rationnelle\u00a0des Forces\u00a0arm\u00e9es\u00a0canadiennes. Ce renversement de\u00a0r\u00f4les\u00a0a\u00a0\u00e9t\u00e9\u00a0une\u00a0le\u00e7on\u00a0pr\u00e9cieuse :\u00a0m\u00eame\u00a0les instruments de guerre\u00a0peuvent\u00a0\u00eatre\u00a0r\u00e9utilis\u00e9s\u00a0au service de la\u00a0paix, et\u00a0l\u2019histoire\u00a0peut\u00a0\u00e9voluer\u00a0de mani\u00e8re\u00a0inattendue.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Le 27\u00a0octobre\u00a01947, l\u2019U-190 a\u00a0\u00e9t\u00e9\u00a0sabord\u00e9\u00a0\u00e0\u00a0l\u2019aide\u00a0de\u00a0tirs\u00a0r\u00e9els\u00a0\u00e0\u00a0l\u2019approche\u00a0du port de Halifax, \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s au\u00a0m\u00eame\u00a0endroit\u00a0o\u00f9\u00a0il\u00a0avait\u00a0coul\u00e9\u00a0le HMCS Esquimalt deux\u00a0ans\u00a0auparavant. Le\u00a0p\u00e9riscope\u00a0du sous-marin\u00a0a\u00a0\u00e9galement\u00a0\u00e9t\u00e9\u00a0retir\u00e9\u00a0de la\u00a0coque\u00a0et est\u00a0aujourd\u2019hui\u00a0expos\u00e9 au Crow\u2019s Nest, \u00e0 St. John\u2019s, un club\u00a0priv\u00e9\u00a0fond\u00e9\u00a0il y a plus de 70\u00a0ans\u00a0pour\u00a0accueillir\u00a0les\u00a0officiers\u00a0de la Marine\u00a0en\u00a0visite\u00a0ou\u00a0en\u00a0poste pendant la\u00a0Seconde\u00a0Guerre\u00a0mondiale.\u00a0Aujourd\u2019hui, le club\u00a0abrite\u00a0des\u00a0centaines\u00a0d\u2019artefacts\u00a0navals\u00a0et\u00a0militaires\u00a0canadiens\u00a0rares.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Cependant, le souvenir ne\u00a0concerne\u00a0pas\u00a0seulement\u00a0la\u00a0perte\u00a0; il\u00a0concerne\u00a0aussi\u00a0ce\u00a0que\u00a0les gens\u00a0choisissent\u00a0de\u00a0construire\u00a0par la suite. Werner Max Hirschmann, chef\u00a0m\u00e9canicien\u00a0et commandant\u00a0en\u00a0second \u00e0 bord de l\u2019U-190,\u00a0a\u00a0ensuite\u00a0immigr\u00e9\u00a0\u00e0 Toronto apr\u00e8s la fin de la guerre. Au\u00a0cours\u00a0des\u00a0ann\u00e9es\u00a0qui\u00a0ont\u00a0suivi, Hirschmann a\u00a0r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement\u00a0assist\u00e9\u00a0aux premi\u00e8res\u00a0c\u00e9r\u00e9monies\u00a0comm\u00e9moratives\u00a0en\u00a0m\u00e9moire\u00a0du HMCS Esquimalt, le\u00a0navire\u00a0m\u00eame\u00a0qu\u2019il\u00a0avait\u00a0contribu\u00e9\u00a0\u00e0\u00a0couler. De mani\u00e8re\u00a0poignante, il\u00a0l\u2019a\u00a0fait aux\u00a0c\u00f4t\u00e9s\u00a0du\u00a0marin\u00a0canadien\u00a0Joseph Frank Wilson,\u00a0l\u2019un\u00a0des\u00a0derniers\u00a0survivants\u00a0du HMCS Esquimalt.
